On thursday 10th April 2025 it was the 270th birthday of Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, the second most commonly used medicine in the world. I was the guest of the SHI Haus der Homöopathie in Zug, Switzerland on this important anniversary for all homeopaths around the world, and to celebrate it with nearly one hundred fellow homeopaths who were attending the school’s Homeopathic Cancer Congress 2025 was such an honour and a deep joy.

The SHI was the vision of New Delhi born homeopath Dr Mohinder Jus, and since his passing in 2019, his wife Dr Martine Jus, an esteemed homeopath in her own right, has continued to nurture and grow his vision. She and her team manage a centre of excellence providing courses in classical homeopathy, human and animal homeopathic clinics, a dispensing pharmacy, a library and museum and a homeopathic garden. It is a jewel of quality and healing. Just as with the 100th Faculty of Homeopathy Conference in Edinburgh last year, being part of the SHI Homeopathic Cancer Congress 2025 was a great reminder that despite the continued lack of acceptance of homeopathy by western mainstream medicine, the scientific medical system that is homeopathy, based on natural laws, continues to thrive.

What are those natural laws? The first, most important and one of the hardest for those rooted in the mainstream medical world to accept, is that disease originates on the dynamic immaterial level and not in the physical biochemical level. We cannot see the dynamic level directly, however, the body expresses dis-ease through the expression of symptoms that manifest in the physical level. We cannot see the messages in the air that reach our phones or the movie that arrives onto our screens and yet we accept the energetic nature of so many aspects of our modern living and yet many cannot consider that information in our bodies begins as energy. When you change the energy, you change the biochemistry and ultimately change the trajectory of health. Once the energy level of our being is recognised, it is a simple logical step to realise that medicine should also be acting at this level to be effective and not only in the physical biochemical realm. A high percentage of pharmaceuticals are aimed at switching off the material symptoms that the body produces to express it’s imbalance; by doing this and not addressing the deeper dynamic disease, the result is merely suppression and not ultimate cure.

The second natural law that is the fundamental law on which homeopathy is based is the Law of Similars. A homeopathic remedy is selected for each patient based upon the fact that it can create a similar artificial disease to the natural disease that the patient is suffering from. Isaac Newton taught us that to every action there is always opposed an equal reaction. The temporary artificial disease created by the remedy is acting on the dynamic level of the patient and induces a self healing effort opposite to the remedy that restores health to a new equilibrium. It is not the remedy that is healing the individual it is the vital force of the individual, which we might only recognise at the level of the immune system but it goes well beyond the immune cells of the body. This does nothing to address the energy imbalance that is at the root of the problem.

By understanding how homeopathy reflects these two laws alone it is easier to understand how homeopathy can be used to treat all living organic beings from plants to animals and people, as all are fundamentally energy beings at their core. We now have homeopaths specialising entirely on the treatment of food crops, some who treat bees, others who treat fish and every living creature in between. Whether it is reducing the amount of chemicals and pesticides in our environment or reducing the number of pharmaceutical drugs, with their attendant side effects, being used by each individual, homeopathy has the capacity to improve the health of all living beings. We will always need great surgeons, good diagnostics and diagnosticians, and yes even some allopathic medicines, but the future should be to fully integrate homeopathy as the main medical modality, not just as the type of pills a patient receives but as the underpinning philosophy for understanding health and disease. For millions of people around the world this is already their reality and there is hope that this will be the reality for many more people and animals in the future.

THE HEALING POWER OF BLUEBELLS

Walking amongst the stunning daffodils at Thorpe Perrow this morning, my eyes were drawn to a stunning carpet of blue and the realisation hit that the bluebells are back!

Bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) are a member of the Hyacinthaceae family of plants, which has about 70 genera and over 800 species. Bluebells retreat underground during the dry and then the cold months and lay dormant, ready to emerge again the following spring.
